What distinguishes Ssial Gongjin-dan?

Musk is formed into a small core, then wrapped in a mixture containing deer antler, Angelica root and Cornus fruit. The distinct musk core and surrounding layer are the defining features of the Ssial method.

Enclosing the musk core was designed to reduce the loss of aromatic constituents. The related manufacturing patent describes this inner-core and outer-layer structure and its preparation.

How Gongjin-dan research informs consultation

A small 2018 crossover pilot enrolled 23 healthy men under restricted sleep. In the overall crossover analysis, the primary cortisol difference was not significant and fatigue scores showed a trend towards improvement. Some fatigue and sleep measures improved over placebo in the first treatment period before crossover. [1]

A 2024 randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial recruited 103 adults with unexplained chronic fatigue lasting at least six months and analysed 90. The primary outcome, change in Fatigue Severity Scale score at week 4, did not differ significantly between Gongjin-dan and placebo; the week-6 score and other main fatigue measures were also not significant. The Gongjin-dan group did improve on the SF-36 Social Functioning subscale at week 4. No laboratory abnormalities or serious intervention-related adverse events were reported. This was a short trial of a specific preparation and does not directly establish fatigue benefit from Bodyall’s Ssial Gongjin-dan or its compounding method. [2]
